- The Cornwall-on-Hudson Police Department presents a drug
abuse, anti-gang and violence education program at the Cornwall on Hudson Elementary
School and St. Thomas of Canterbury School. The primary emphasis of the program is to
assist students in recognizing and resisting the pressures that influence them to
experiment with drug and/or violence. The program is entitled DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance
Education).
The Los Angeles Unified School District's Instructional Specialist developed the
curriculum. It is presented by a uniformed police officer and will cover such topics as
how to say no to peers, building self-esteem, and alternatives to drug use. An abbreviated
program is also be given to children in grades Kindergarten through Fourth. This
abbreviated program deals more with personal safety of your children.
The DARE program is presented by Officer Jill Nye (Officer Jill). Officer
Nye
was certified as a DARE Instructor in January of 2005 for the Core program
and the Middle/Junior High
